The aim of my project is to build up current thin engineered tissue with average diameter 100-200 µm by developing a new scaffold, seeding the scaffold with bone marrow derived human mesenchymal stem cells and utilising chemical media to direct the differentiation of the hMSCs down the osteogenic and adipogenic lineages and to demonstrate their multipotent potential. Then, I will utilise the human umbilical vein to provide a mechanism for vascularisation of the tissue. This differentiation coupled with vascularisation will produce a thick engineered tissue which will be around 1 cm and can differentiate into other specific tissues, due to the presence of hMSCs. This approach; application of thick vascularised tissues, can be used alternatively in several medical conditions of regenerative medicine in future
